NICO

📍Plaza del Forn de Sant Nicolau, 5, Ciutat Vella
If you're looking for a modern café steeped in local heritage, NICO has it covered. The original bakery opened here in 1902, and it’s nice to see that tradition honored with the name and the original bread-making tools on display. The new owners carry that authenticity forward, with everything made in-house from freshly baked bread to pastries and sweets. The specialty coffee is equally strong, with local and national roasters featured in rotation. A special mention goes to the matcha, which is excellent. This is a perfect find on hot summer days when you’re exploring the city and need a refreshing break. Next time you’re in El Carmen, stop by for a coffee to go and one of their quality handmade sandwiches.

OFF LINE CAFÉ

📍Plaza de Mossén Sorell, 9, Ciutat Vella
This refurbished space in El Carmen is a must-visit for design and coffee lovers. It’s impressive on many levels from the architecture and interiors to the creativity of its Spanish–Asian fusion food and drinks menu. Beyond establishing themselves as a place for great specialty coffee, they also serve natural wines, house-made pastries, cakes, brunch, and all-day dishes. They work with one of our favorite roasters, NOMAD, and we recommend the espresso or cortado for purists who love rich flavor profiles. For summer days, the iced latte or matcha is a winner. Keep an eye on their Instagram for seasonal drinks that are as visually stunning as they are delicious.

Blackbird (Little)

📍C/ de les Danses, 2, Ciutat Vella
The original Blackbird in Russafa is one of our favorite coffee and brunch spots in Valencia, so it’s great to see them open this smaller take-away café in El Carmen. It distills their full café experience down to the essentials, making it a convenient stop on a popular walking route. They exclusively serve beans from Right Side Roasters, with a limited but high-quality selection of handmade sandwiches and snacks that often sell out quickly. Be sure to try their light, fresh pastries or the BLT, which is always packed with flavor.
